After Pregnancy

Now that your precious baby is born, the real challenges of motherhood begins! The first 6-8 weeks after your baby is born is a time of physical and emotional readjustment. Your body will readjust in anticipation of looking after your little bundle. Your family has gotten bigger, and this will change the dynamics in your home, in so many ways. Do not worry. It will work itself out.

As with preconception and during pregnancy, look after yourself so that you can rise up to the demands of the newest member of your family. This includes good nutrition, especially if you are breastfeeding, taking steps to help with your recovery, and making a lifestyle adjustment for your new life with a baby.

An important note to remember is that you are likely to receive a lot of advice from many different sources. This advice will often be contradictory. You may have already experienced this. That is because like people, every baby is different, and not all the different ways of caring for a baby are right for your child. It helps to get as much advice as possible in caring for your baby, especially if you run into problems. Try everything you know to determine what is best for your child.
