Your Baby’s Health and You

It is easy to become deficient in DHA and EPA, vitamin A, B group vitamins including folic acid, vitamins C, D, and E, as well as the minerals calcium, magnesium, iron, iodine, and zinc. These nutrients are essential for child development.

Central and Peripheral Nervous System Development

PM Procare is a source of high grade Tuna Oil (natural) containing omega-3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Improved physical and mental development has been reported in children whose mothers had higher levels of DHA before, during, and after pregnancy. Benefits include better attention, concentration, learning, cognition and memory, with a lower risk of attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder (ADD/ADHD), anxiety, stress and impulsive behaviour. While DHA is essential, making up 60% of neural tissue, EPA is also important. Higher EPA levels have been linked to mood regulation. In children, higher EPA levels are associated with a lower risk of experiencing depression.

Some expectant mothers become more forgetful during pregnancy. A higher intake of DHA and iron may improve this condition. DHA assists in reducing symptoms associated with post-natal depression. While symptoms of post-natal depression have been strongly associated with hormone changes following birth, it has been noted that these symptoms are similar to those experienced due to sleep deprivation.

DHA and EPA are both active constituents of tuna oil. The tuna oil contained in PM Procare is processed from tuna fished from the South Pacific, ensuring a clean source. The tuna oil undergoes strict quality processes to comply with ISO and HACCP. Tuna oil has the highest level of DHA (5:1) of any commercially fished species. Only select tuna species are used (Albacore, Skipjack and Big Eye) using ‘dolphin safe’ fishing methods. Tuna oil’s 5:1 ratio of DHA to EPA is similar to that present in nutrient-rich human breast milk.

The folic acid in PM Procare is neuroprotective, being most important prior to conception and in the first trimester. This is the crucial time when your child’s neural tissue, body structure and organs are developing. Folic acid reduces the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida and anencephaly. Because of this, a number of health organisations including the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend that women should supplement their diet with 400mcg (0.4mg) of folic acid daily.

In addition, higher levels of folic acid has been shown to reduce the risk of preterm birth. Folic acid also influences DHA and EPA levels, where higher levels of folic acid can lead to an increase in both fatty acids. It is also worthy to note that folic acid and omega-3 fatty acids have been reported to increase fertility and rates of conception among couples.

Cell Production and Health

PM Procare provides benefits for the maintenance of cell health, integrity, function, and production. Folic acid is essential for DNA and RNA synthesis, which leads to protein synthesis. This is an essential process for cell production and maintenance. The B group and C vitamins are also essential for cell function and metabolism. Iodine is important for overall metabolism, a requirement for thyroid function. And then there’s zinc. Zinc is incorporated into the make up of all cells, in particular cell membranes for the maintenance of cell integrity.

Eye Development and Sight

The eye is composed of a network of nerves, for vision processing. As with the brain and other neural tissue, DHA is in high demand during eye development and is essential for eye health.

Also important in eye health are vitamins A, B1, B2. These ingredients are essential for better eye sight, providing long term benefits in eye health, increasing resistance to infections and reducing the risk of symptoms associated with dry eye and other eye conditions.

Bone Health

PM Procare contains ingredients that are beneficial for bone health. Your baby has or will have a high demand for vitamin D, calcium, magnesium and zinc for their fast growing bones. Pregnancy and lactation are often times when women become deficient in these nutrients, resulting in bone mineral loss. Your teeth may also become similarly affected. PM Procare can assist you in maintaining bone mass density, reducing your risk of osteoporosis during pregnancy, lactation, and later in life.

The fish oil content in PM Procare is also beneficial for long term bone joint health. Research has shown that fish oil helps reduce the risk of and symptoms associated with different forms of arthritis and other joint complaints. As most of the products for arthritis in the market are contra-indicated for pregnant and lactating women, PM Procare can be a safe & effective option for mothers who suffer from this condition.

Cardiovascular Health

Fish oil benefits cardiovascular development and health, inhibiting clotting factors, improving blood circulation and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attacks. The reduced risk of preterm birth mentioned earlier may be due to this improvement in blood circulation.

Folic acid assists cardiovascular health through its role in cell production and maintenance, as well as through its affect on DHA. Vitamins A, C and E are antioxidants, protecting cells from free radicals. Iron assists the oxygen carrying capacity of red blood cells. During pregnancy, your blood volume will increase to ensure a sufficient supply of nutrients to you and your baby. Because of this increase, the iron in your blood is effectively diluted, and you can become sluggish, breathless, and experience constant tiredness or fatigue. Iron-deficiency anaemia can be avoided or alleviated by increasing your iron intake, preferably from meat sources as this is more readily absorbed, as well as through using PM Procare. The vitamin C in PM Procare facilitates iron absorption.

Immune Health

When pregnant, your immunity decreases, so your body does not reject your baby during pregnancy. But this also means that you are more susceptible to pathogens. The antioxidant properties of vitamins A, B group, C and E assist immune system development and maintenance as well as protecting against free radicals. In combination with zinc, iron, DHA and EPA, these nutrients assist in laying a strong foundation for your child’s immunity.

Skin Health

Not surprisingly, the micronutrients found in PM Procare that benefit the immune system also assists in maintaining skin health and protection against damaging sunlight. Exposure to sunlight causes the generation of free-radicals as well as suppression of the immune system, particularly just underneath the exposed skin. This is how your skin can become sun damaged. The antioxidant properties of vitamins A, B group, C and E assist in preventing this damage from occurring, while DHA and EPA increase hydration and skin cell protection. Research has shown that tuna oil improves skin damage and reduces inflammation.

Your Health

The incidence and severity of morning sickness is reduced in mothers whose nutrient intake is higher. Along with a healthy diet, PM Procare helps in ensuring that you and your baby receives the nutrients you both require. Remember, you need all the help you can get. Not only is your child’s health important, your health is also important. You need to be healthy so you are better able to look after your child. PM Procare is more beneficial to you if you intend to have more children.

Your Partner’s Health

While PM Procare has been formulated for women, it also benefits men. The nutrients in PM Procare provides men with many of the same benefits that it does women; in the areas of neural, mental, cell, eye, bone, cardiovascular and immune health. Some men are susceptible to many of the same conditions as women, including stress, anxiety, depression, eye conditions, osteoporosis, chronic heart disease and immune deficiency. With these benefits PM Procare is beneficial to any man, woman or child from 12 years of age.

The beneficial effects of PM Procare can be seen not just in the development of your child, but also in maintaining your health and wellbeing, and that of your partner. The use of PM Procare along with a healthy diet and lifestyle can provide benefits for the whole family that will continue in the long term.
